China has 22,000 miles of high-speed rail and we’re still celebrating every 200 miles we can get.      High-speed rail is 8 times more energy efficient than airplanes and 4 times more efficient than cars. The challenges are great but we need to keep pushing for it. scientificamerican.com/artic…

It's not going to happen in the US at scale. Land use and environmental impact will either kill every projects or drag for so long making them 10x expensive.

Marianne, you had 3+ years to show us you taken action. Where have you been for those 3+ yrs? Why do we suddenly hear from you again during "run for President" season? What world leader have you spent time with?

Not to mention a lot of people cannot drive for various reasons (and can’t go see family), it would help prevent a lot of deaths, and would be a great way of making our country more community oriented.

America can do it; easily. It's just stuck in Militarism and misadventures abroad, with no end in sight. I worry that I won't see that day when America finally turns this ship around before the global south completely dumps the Dollar as the world's reserve currency.

If we had a functioning Govt, we'd have high speed rail where we AND our car get aboard, we zip to X get off and drive off in our new location.

They (PRC) also have installed MSR nuclear, which they learned about from the Molten Salt Reactor Experiment at Oak Ridge in the US. This is a great way to power high speed trains since it doesn't use fossil fuels in operation.

Corrupt politicians making sweetheart deals with billionaires that hold the land over which the rail would need to cross are bidding up the cost of the project. A land value tax would solve this.
