Dear Marianne: Coincidentally, your campaign is happening during the Arab-Israeli conflict in the region, and protests around the world. Please note that there is a solution to the root cause of the conflict. As you are likely aware, over the past fifty years, proposals to end the Arab-Israeli conflict have specified one or both of the following pre-conditions. 1. The Islamic nations must recognize Israel’s right to exist in peace in the region. 2. Israel must return the Gaza and West Bank areas to Arabs. Islamic and Jewish political leaders understood that accepting these preconditions violated the following essential aspects of Islamic and Jewish religious traditions. 1. Mohammed’s final command that only one religion must occupy the Arabian Peninsula. 2. Moses’ final command that the Israelites must occupy their God-given inheritance, including Gaza and the West Bank. Until this complex equation is solved, Jewish and Islamic political leaders must negotiate in bad faith to avoid the fatal consequences of making unpopular decisions. Both sides knew this, but allowed third parties to push them into making agreements that their populations could never agree to. This forced the populations into an unnecessary conflict while sincerely praising the same God. The obvious solution is to resolve the conflicting religious issues with the pre-conditions. This may be done by relying on the Jewish Bible and the Islamic Qur’an to show that: (i) despite Moses’ clear commands, God explicitly commanded that those in Gaza and the West Bank should remain, and (ii) Mohammed never intended that Israel was to be included in his final command. I recommend that Jewish Rabbis and Islamic Sheikhs honestly examine the compelling evidence so that the political leaders can finally have the freedom to negotiate a fair agreement in good faith.
