Hamas says it didn’t want to harm civilians, suggesting they were surprised by the music festival. Bur if that’s true they could turn over the perpetrators of that massacre and release those civilian hostages.

The people in the kibbutzim were civilians as well. Hamas absolutely set out to kill civilians, and videos that they themselves put out show them laughing as they did so. I have never made excuses for systemic injustices on the part of Israel, but neither should we in any way minimize the brutality of Hamas.

Civilians protected by security guards and often armed themselves. Of the 1400 victims of October 7, about 400 were IDF/ police/ security. Many civilians undoubtedly were killed in the shootouts, cross-fire and IDF attacks.

completely agree we should not minimize the brutality of this Hamas attack. But simply calling what Israel does, consistently, not just since Oct. 7 systemic injustices is minimizing the brutality of Israel. We shouldn't do that either.

What about Israel massacring it’s own civilians and soldiers during the kibbutzim battle? The burnings? Caused by Israeli shelling. They murdered their own. Why is only Hamas being called terrorists for oct 7?
