Responded to the mass shooting in Maine last night, our new Speaker of the House said prayer is appropriate at a time like this. That’s it. That was his response. 1/3

Darn right, Mr. Speaker. So is a ban on assault weapons, universal background checks, banning bump stocks and high-capacity magazines, and more. Using prayer as cover for the political unwillingness to address earthly problems is a mockery of faith. 2/3

No idea what an assault weapon is... So, I'd rather not ban something I don't know what IT is.

Do you have any suggestions that might actually help?

Prayer and reflection are seldom contraindicated when witnessing a barbaric act, and it's petty and childish of you to mock the efforts of those who do believe that it helps. Wonder if that Maine shooter also lied on his form 4473?

I, too, want to keep retrying things that have never worked.

"Assault weapon" is a made-up word (you wouldn't call them assault hammers. They are just handguns or rifles, i.e., weapons). Secondly, a bump stock basically manipulates the recoil with springs so you can increase your rate of fire. People modify their firearms all the time.
