Thinking of peace in the Middle East. The Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty of 1979 would be a good framework for imagining peace in the Middle East. The Sinai Peninsula is demilitarized in Zone C which is approximately the size of the Palestinian State. Israel could give up land adjacent to Egypt and Egypt could cede some land adjacent to Israel. This land could be a demilitarized homeland for the Palestinians. It could be administered by the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) which along with Egyptian Civilian Police have enforcement powers in the area. This is better than war and needs to be put forward as a possibility for the consideration of all of humanity. This war is bigger than its combatants. It is an opportunity for all of humanity to do the right thing. The area is a desert but humanity can easily make it bloom for a fraction of the cost of any engagement. We can build instead of destroy. The 1979 miracle can be repeated. Also, as someone who admires former President Jimmy Carter for achieving the 1979 treaty, it would be nice to do something like this while he is still alive.
So lets all imagine peace plans. Just because you're not Secretary of State doesn't mean you can't dream.
