I remember a time when coming out was almost always a deeply
traumatic thing. People rejected by family and loved ones, spurned and obstructed in their personal and professional lives. A lot of cruelty shown people for simply being who they were. 1/4

One of my strongest memories from the AIDS crisis was how many young men would tell me tearfully they had to call their parents… and that telling them they were gay was even harder than telling them they were going to die. 2/4

I’m so happy it’s different now for the majority of people in this country. But we shouldn’t forget that in places around the world it’s the kind of thing that could still endanger someone’s life. 3/4

Nor should we forget the backlash that’s occurring here in this country, either! Today is a good day to honor the path of LGBTQI+ as they come to accept fully who they are. May they always feel accepted by those around them and loved by those around them. Coming out should be a celebration. God’s creation is never wrong. #NationalComingOutDay 4/4
