I was 24 years old when Carter become president. The night before the 1980 election I heard him and Reagan on TV and thought we didn鈥檛 have anything to worry about, that Carter would win again easily. 1/2

I couldn鈥檛 conceive of the country not wanting to re-elect him. I thought he was great then and I think he鈥檚 great now. Happy birthday, Mr. President. 馃挋馃檹鉂わ笍 2/2

I'm glad he's still alive, and he tried to do some good things. But he didn't prioritize labor unions and, rather than leading a rejuvenation of the FDR/LBJ socio-economic legacy for the late 20th century, the era of neoliberal capitalism actually began on his watch 馃槥

Carter probably would have been re-elected if not for Reagan group's treason, convincing Iran to hold our hostages until Carter was out of office and then rewarding the Ayatollah with boatloads of illegal arms

Iran Hostages, failed Iran rescue attempt, and economic collapse , with energy crisis. It was obvious he would lose, how could you not see that coming?

It is a tragedy that both Republicans and establishment Democrats did many bad tricks to sabotage his administration and all of Washington whispered to each other to lower the insider and national political esteem to which he had a right. Demestab worse than Rs. They owned it.

He outlived his usefulness to the National Security State; they needed to obscure Brzezinski's 'Islamic Card' he played launching Muslim jihad against the southern flanks of the USSR. At that time Khomeini was OURS until the students forced Iran's hands by seizing the US Embassy.
