There will now be huge driverless trucks on the road in California, Gavin Newsom having vetoed a bipartisan bill that would require a trucker’s presence. 1/3

I don’t know what to be more horrified by, what this does to truckers who will lose their jobs or what this does to safety. 2/3

Beware (and resist) the economic forces that make the needs of human beings the least important thing. 3/3

You better brush up on AI cause everything is about flip. There’s going to be a lot more than just unemployed truckers. UBI is the only way to mitigate -even if only short term- the waves of hungry, unhoused and sick masses in the near future. Are you ready for that challenge?

We’re gonna need UBI as this ramps up. It’s just the beginning

Well no duh, Capitalists own the government, and profit always comes before any other considerations (no truck drivers means more profit).

That’s horrible.

what's the point of having drivers in autonomous trucks? that would be stupidly wasteful

I think you're on the wrong side of this one. The safety data is clear: humans are terrible drivers and the vast majority of crashes are due to driver error. There is a moral imperative to take human drivers off the road and that includes trucks.

The work of small businesses or independent operators will transfer to megacorps. Look around for businesses that cater to truck drivers and imagine them gone. Who will support these displace people, where's the plan?

I live in California. This is horrifying. Has anyone considered that these trucks could be hacked? This is not self-checkout at the grocery store, where the worst that could happen is inconvenience. This is huge trucks on public highways. Huge safety concern.
