I really wish she had led with guaranteed income. 🔥
The way to defeat authoritarianism is not by going on endlessly about how terrible Trump is. The to defeat authoritarianism is by offering people so much more….presenting a more compelling vision. We need a 21st Century Economic Bill of Rights: universal healthcare, tuition free college and tech school, free childcare, paid family leave, guaranteed sick pay and a guaranteed living wage... marianne2024.com/economic-bi…

I DO support a UBI - and have always said so. The reason I don’t “lead” with it is because it does not of itself address the fundamental flaw of unfettered capitalism. As a stopgap measure, however, yes. We need to do whatever necessary to relieve millions of their unjust circumstances.

UBI isn’t going to work without price controls, what we need is a federal jobs guarantee.

A FJG will never work. Work is being redefined by AI as we sit here on our couches. There's nothing humans can do that our machines can't do better. And they don't get sick or have families or go on vacations. They don't demand higher wages or profit sharing. FJG is a dead end.

I think UBI is a correction for the abuses of capitalism: in particular it's a brake mechanism to prevent people from falling into abject poverty. It should never be stopgap or temporary but seen as a fundamental right of the people who live in this country. It is our dividend.

A UBI is just a prong on many fronts on Labor's War against Oligarchy, Monopolies, Bankers, & America's corrupt, crony gov. We need: A debt jubilee MMT Retail banking nationalized Big Oil nationalized An economic bill of rights Medicare for all Free college & VOC Etc

Unconditional basic income DOES address the fundamental flaws of capitalism which is a system built on capital where not everyone starts with capital, where exploitation relies on lack of capital. The unconditionality and universality of UBI means that everyone gains the power to withhold their labor until their demands are met. That kind of bargaining power massively increases worker bargaining power, in a way that even reaches all unpaid workers and all workers that can't join unions. It makes General Strikes even possible in a realistic way. UBI is not some stopgap measure. It's a fundamental transformation and recognition of human and economic rights. Capitalism exists upon mandatory participation. It relies on some people having access to resources and withholding that access from others unless they do what they're told. UBI changes that. THAT'S HUGE. widerquist.com/mandatory-par…

I agree that no policy solves everything by itself, but why not support a substantial, *permanent yet scalable*, unconditional UBI? Do you support guaranteed economic security for all? If we don’t demand such a UBI now, what leverage will we have when AI does most of the labor?

The reasnon you don't lead with it is because you don't understand that basic needs that UBI secures come before all what you mentioned.

I love you Marianne, I’m promoting you & voting for you & hope you hear me with love: FJG architect said FJG IS THE STOPGAP. The architects of the FJG said the goal for the temporary minimum wage FJG jobs to compete with private sector jobs, pressuring both wages to stay low.

(Note: “UBD” stands for Universal Basic Dividend—UBI where corporations are taxed and not the working class—so corporations have to deposit, for example, 10% of their shares)
UBI Works founder @floydmarinescu makes the case for why basic income is compensation for your loss of the commons, including our common land.
