Ask any citizen of an advanced democracy if they feel their universal healthcare or free childcare is authoritarian. Ask people who had free tuition for college in this country before the 1970s whether they felt it was authoritarian. Tell me how paid family leave or raising the minimum wage to a living wage would be authoritarian. You can’t, of course.

Australian here. Marianne's 100% correct. Australians live 4 years longer (until nearly 84) than those in the US (nearly 80). It doesn't expand government power; they fund it, not 'run' it. Canadians live 3-4 years longer too. Not just a longer life. One without constant stress.
