The reason we should cancel the entire student loan debt is because those loans should never have existed to begin with. Before the 1970s, we had near. tuition free situations in Florida, Texas, and California. This was a malevolent strain of capitalism reaching into the pockets of some of our most vulnerable citizens, people simply trying to better their lives by getting a higher education. Every other advanced democracy has tuition free higher Ed. We should too.

As an educator, I truly believe that eliminating student debt is critical to improving our education system in the United States. It is one of many steps to encourage the continuation of education for those graduating High School and also those who wish to take a new career path.

No, let them default. The creditors must take the loss, not tax payers

This post solidifies Marianne's position as the doyen of looney-liberalism. Her mentor, Bernie, will be proud of her. We may now abolish legally-binding agreements by saying they "should never have existed to begin with." Please tell Marianne what you would like abolished.

Get real. They took the debt on and they need to pay the debt back.

Making higher education free would eliminate a major barrier to social mobility. High tuition costs can disproportionately affect lower-income families, perpetuating cycles of poverty. Free higher education could also lead to a more educated populace, which in turn could benefit society through increased productivity, better civic participation, and a more skilled workforce.

Marianne you have posted some of the dumbest tweets. With that in mind, I understand politics is hard and you need votes. Vote buying has worked for other in the past and this might work. Put your mind to it, there must be all sorts of debts you can forgive to buy votes. What about repatriations..all talk and no action on the left.

Let the banks and the schools pay it back. They made all the 💰. Stop making us pay for your bad decisions.

@marwilliamson Ea year millions of HS grads are sent into the world WITHOUT ENOUGH EDUCATION + JOB SKILLS to earn a reasonable living working a full-time job. THEN WE COMPLAIN when ENEVITABLE Homelessness + need for PublicAsst occurs. Survival Culture pushes many to crime+drugs.

The Colleges and Universities should pay off those debts. That way, the middle class won't be affected by such dumb decisions.
