The reason we should cancel the entire student loan debt is because those loans should never have existed to begin with. Before the 1970s, we had near. tuition free situations in Florida, Texas, and California. This was a malevolent strain of capitalism reaching into the pockets of some of our most vulnerable citizens, people simply trying to better their lives by getting a higher education. Every other advanced democracy has tuition free higher Ed. We should too.

The reason college became more expensive isn't because of "malevolent capitalism" it's because they more than doubled the amount of administrative (non educational) staff and turned college into a consumer product for middle class kids to avoid adulthood

Marianne, you shouldn't call all the government efforts to keep private business out of higher education, and public money thrown into higher education, malevolent capitalism. Rather it is malevolent, top-down socialism in action.

There are lots of places that offer free two-year college, employers with tuition reimbursement, etc. The culprits are the university leadership who inflated the cost of a 4-year degree & government bureaucrats working with them to create "affordable" repayment plans.
So true we can pay for pre-K through 12th grade.A simple investment for 4 more years whether it’s traditional college or trade school is an INVESTMENT in our country. Student loans are predatory & usury. A lifetime of financial servitude is WRONG @POTUS @SecCardona @UnderSecKvaal

Yes, but then the govt decided to "fix" the problem and colleges found out that they could just raise the cost of tuition accordingly as the govt was funding this through direct aid and guaranteed loans. The lesson: Govt rarely, if ever, makes anything better.

Yea we see how serious high schools take free high school. Y’all are retarded

Because they do it we should too is not a good reason. Let the mostly non-profit colleges/universities forgive the debt without somehow coming back on the taxpayers. Those who paid their loans or didn’t go to college shouldn’t pay the debts of those that did.

Not the anglophone, and so neoliberal, ones, as far as I know. Not sure about the others.
