The biggest problem is that whoever wrote this tweet didn’t even realize how outrageous it is. A one-time $700 assistance check to an entire household that just lost everything… Note that that is considered the “serious” people. If you’re not more serious than that about human suffering, then you’re not serious at all.

2. We're laser-focused on getting aid to survivors, including Critical Needs Assistance: a one-time $700 payment per household offering relief during an unimaginably difficult time. We have staff on the ground dedicated to helping survivors navigate the registration process.

It is simply the maximum amount that can immediately be granted by FEMA. No one is arguing that it should stay this low. But it takes congressional approval to provide any larger amounts. And with this Congress, that could take quite a while.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday and laughed and thought maybe they meant $7000 and forgot a 0-- That's a little better, 700 isn't going to do anything but insult people.

Which one of these guys are you descended from? You have never been to a disaster site. You don’t know anything about FEMA. That is not the sum of the recovery assistance but who makes that mistake You are super hilarious

Marianne, I love you. I believe what JB is saying is they’re going to upfront $700 no questions asked, but if during an intake the family requires more support, FEMA is authorized to do that.
