Is @EricLevitz unaware that @marwilliamson is running? At certain point it’s a real credibility issue when a journalist writes a sentence like: “[Biden] faces no leftist challenger save Cornel West’s Green Party campaign.”

I wasn't aware that she identifies as a leftist. If that is the case, I will amend to "no serious leftist challenger." (I consider Williamson's candidacy unserious because of her dearth of both popular support and relevant experience.)

How is West serious but Williamson not? He has no experience or major support either. I don’t understand what your standard of seriousness is that would dismiss her but include him.

That’s fair. I think the more relevant distinction is that West has the nomination of a party with ballot access in many states. Williamson has a zero percent chance of winning the Democratic nomination, and is not even on the ballot in many states…

This said, I also think West’s career as a political commentator and thinker is considerably more extensive than Williamson. But you’re right that they both lack experience in government

Please read my books "Healing the Soul of America" and "The Politics of Love," check out my non-profit and lobbying experience, then get back to me about whether my career as a political commentator and thinker are "extensive."
As far as my lack of experience in government, you're right! But we don't need more political car mechanics; we have plenty of those in Washington. The problem is that we're on the wrong road.

I feel the same way. Saying the Trump presidency was ineffective is delusional. It was very effective in bringing about changes that many of us find deeply disturbing.
It was not his political inexperience but rather his character that was problematic. He could’ve had an entirely different kind of team around him if he had chosen to.
If he hadn’t been effective, we all wouldn’t be so terrified of his return.
