Politicians blaming homelessness on mental health or addiction issues is a deflection technique. It is a complete abdication of moral responsibility for the way so many public policies have driven people into chronic and unbearable despair for decades.

But focusing on only one group and ignoring the others is why California and Portland are so messed up. Those drug addicts, ptsd, and alcoholics need mandatory state help. There are more of them than the ones who have recently lost housing who need housing and a living wage.

Well if you really want to do that make a steeper estate tax. Use that money to roll back all of Ronald Wilson Reagan's horrible policies of closing down mental hospitals and services like that.
