Politicians blaming homelessness on mental health or addiction issues is a deflection technique. It is a complete abdication of moral responsibility for the way so many public policies have driven people into chronic and unbearable despair for decades.

The news media and the politicians work together to paint the homeless as all drug addicted. The reality is most homeless don't use drugs.

There are many different factors that can contribute to homelessness. Some common causes include: 1. Lack of affordable housing: A shortage of affordable housing options can make it difficult for individuals and families to find and maintain stable housing. 2. Poverty and unemployment: Financial instability and job loss can lead to homelessness, as individuals may struggle to afford rent or mortgage payments. 3. Substance abuse and mental health issues: Substance abuse and mental health issues can contribute to homelessness, as individuals may have difficulty maintaining employment and stable housing. 4. Family and relationship breakdown: Conflict within families or strained relationships can result in individuals being unable to stay with family or friends, leading to homelessness. 5. Lack of support services: Insufficient access to supportive services such as healthcare, counseling, and social assistance can make it challenging for individuals to overcome homelessness. 6. Natural disasters and emergencies: Disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or floods can displace individuals and cause temporary or long-term homelessness.
