If the average American were to take in the enormity of the tragedy that is Afghanistan today, plus even a fraction of how spectacularly we failed our own soldiers as well as the people of that country, no one, and I mean no one, would be retaining any faith in our political system as it now exists. I don’t know what is worse - its corruption or its ineptitude. Smash the machine and grow flowers in its place. #Marianne2024

"smash the machine". How does that work? Fun to say, but it usually involves lots of death

Smashing the neoliberal machine that puts corporate profits over people's lives means saving lives, not destroying them.

Starting in the 1980's the US groomed Islamic fundamentalists in Afghanistan to tear down their left leaning government, creating the Mujahdeen, eventually the Taliban, the US also worked with Osama Bin Laden ( a wealthy man from the Arabian peninsula) in this project in Afghanistan. Then cynically we used this setup for an invasion of Afghanistan after an attack in the US (911). It isn't so dissimilar to what we are now attempting in eastern Ukraine, trying to weaken Russia. These constant wars weaken the US internally, the people have less trust or respect in the government, you now see military enlistment dropping, and that will only intensify, these are not wars for our national security, these are wars that profit a few who make lots of money and dream of control over natural resources they currently do not possess. At the same time the US middle class increases debt and financial stress.

Stop with the America hating. America tried to save Afghanistan for 20 years. Afghanistan was failed by its own men, who chose to abdicate their duty to their women and spent life doped up on opium in caves. The only people not constantly high, was the Taliban.

Afghanistan is not our problem. Thinking it was our problem did them no good. It’s time to mind our own business

The failure was going in there to try and “Americanize” or “westernize” a tribal society. Nothing short of imperialism. But the corporate world, especially but not only the arms industry, benefited immensely. This was not a “mistake”. It was fully intentional.
