3k reservists? Reservists are almost all non combat troops. I'd be curious as to which reserve units are being called up.

They are augmenting active duty with up to 3000 reservists. They probably have a critical shortfall in a particular job they need. They did this in the Iraq war with EOD troops (bomb squad). Basically they will active duty a few reservists that are already trained.
