There are two ways to look at slavery in the US. One is that it is the country’s original sin and there is no way to heal from it. The other is that over 600,000 Americans gave their lives to help end over 10,000 years of human slavery and America was one of the first countries (following a trend that actually began in the independent sovereign of pre-statehood Vermont and spread to Europe in the early to mid 1800s) to end slavery. Sadly, slavery has not totally been eradicated from Earth.
