Medicare4All, tuition-free college and tech school etc are not “free.” They are the use of our tax dollars - money earned by the people themselves - to actually serve the people.🧵

That “free money” about which some are so concerned is the billions of dollars in corporate subsidies given to companies already making billions of dollars; tax cuts for the very very wealthy; and defense contractors who gauge the military with impunity.

Discouraging to see a neoliberal "pay-fors" trope.

This is why we have to change the narrative (or fiction, if you will) so f how things are “paid for”. We are discussing and equitable distribution of resources. It has nothing to do with anyone’s taxes or how much “money” the government has. We cannot continue to dumb this down.

Taxpayers were once the land and slave owners. Should only the land and slave owners have a say in how public money created via fiat (not taxed or borrowed) is spent for the benefit of Americans? The “taxpayer” trope is a right wing falsehood designed to defund Fed programs.

I wish you would set up a Zoom meeting with Prof. Stephanie Kelton (@StephanieKelton) to discuss these matters.

Why would I want government to do for me what I can do for myself?
