Today’s Supreme Court decision barring Affirmative Action in college admissions is an unfortunate step backward in America’s commitment to social justice. But the deeper problem is that such programs should have ever been necessary to begin with. 1/2

Systemic racism begins in early childhood in the United States, and dealing with it there is how we will override the deepening racial injustices only exacerbated by today’s decision. Unequal opportunity in childhood education is where the problem begins and where we will ultimately solve it. 2/2

My commitment is to radically increase America’s commitment to every American child - to make every public school a palace of learning, culture and the arts. 3/3

They ruled against race-based affirmative action, but the door is open to class-based affirmative action. If colleges offered more spots to poor students, that would help black and brown students, plus conservatives would be more likely to get behind it.

How about you blame the real cause of what happens today…. I blame all the derps!!! who did not vote for Hillary Clinton especially in States like Wisconsin and Michigan.

You've had affirmative action in elite universities for 45 years yet supposedly minorities are STILL systemically oppressed in the education system. Apparently your solution didn't work.

Affirmative Action was never about Diversity. Affirmative Action wasn't for white women. Affirmative Action wasn't for LGBTQ. Affirmative Action wasn't for minorities or people of color. Affirmative Action was for the American Negro.

Im a Latina and I don’t think it’s fair to select students just cause of the color of their skin. Maybe merit and help people of poor socioeconomic backgrounds but it shouldn’t be based solely on race. It’s insulting.

Well meaning but horribly misguided.

It will be overturned. Scotus is currently 33% AA, once its 5 of 9, everything changes.
