Marianne, you're actually complaining about crony capitalism or cRapitalism: the unholy alliance between big business & gov't--often manifested by regulatory capture: the strong tendency for regulatory agencies to be captured by the very industries they are supposed to regulate.

I always appreciate what you do, and I hope you will be doing it for a very long time, but trying to talk economic sense into @marwilliamson is a windmill that many people have been tilting at for some time. I hope you have better luck than myself.
