No phrase has been used more manipulatively than "national security." How many imperialistic wars have been fought, millions of lives wasted, and fortunes squandered because we were led to believe it was for the sake of "national security?" Our military madness has not made us more secure; it has made us less secure. and it has weakened us in the eyes of the world. We need to redefine "national security." We will be *secure* when our access to health care is secure, our access to education is secure, our children's safety is secure, our way to make a living wage is secure, our access to housing is secure, the safety of our water and food are secure, and our democracy is secure. First we change the conversation; then we can start to change the world.

I don't believe in shedding blood for "national security." I do believe, however, that we do need to protect our men and women in armed, diplomatic, or intelligence services. They are our brothers and sisters, uncles and cousins...leakers that endanger them need to be prosecuted.

Taking on Biden's imperialism is an obvious position to take in the Democratic primaries. Considering the candidates in the race, don't ignore the health care risks from RFK Jr's anti-vax/anti-science positions, especially when we face future pandemics.

But they only become unjust imperialistic wars on reflection after they are over, right? Vietnam, El Salvador, Iraq… but not Syria, Ukraine, Taiwan.

I agree and think we need to apply this to Ukraine, Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc etc etc

The debt ceiling agreement capped spending on non-defensive military. Since the Pentagon claims everything they do is for national defense, this cap means absolutely nothing. 🙄🤬

All you wrote is true. Now withdraw from presidential race. You have no business running for leader of of the free world. Run for mayor in your home town

Thank you…you sentiments echo a long held philosophic tenet that “things gotta be right in the body, local community, geographical area, etc…” before the whole is right…Aristotle, Maslov, Wendell Berry, etc…hence one cannot have national security until each citizen is secure

We have national security when we have a strong military and our strong military depends on its leaders and our president being honest, competent, and truthful. Ex president trump is none of the above and he needs to be held responsible for the high crimes of lying to us.
