I really like MW and agree w so much of what she says, but excluding #UBI is a deal-breaker for me. One of the big sticking points w the #WritersStrike is the studios wanting to use AI to write scripts. It's a perfect time to introduce #UBI to a VERY influential group.

I’ve never excluded UBI. I said that last time, and this time. It does not correct the fundamental flaws of hypercapitalism, but as a stopgap measure (perhaps two to five years?) while the ship is being righted and economic justice is being re-introduced into the system, I think it’s good.

Stop gap measure? I was born in 74 around the same time the Mincome pilot started. We should have moved towards ubi back then but listened to the claims of destroying welfare, and here we all now are. I could have never known my country with poverty. Let's not fail twice.

Sorry, but this Economic B of R was too long & just reminds me of typical political theatrics w/out substance on how some of these things can get done. 🤦‍♂️ And the opinion that UBI should be only a "stop gap" doesn't give me confidence the right answers are here!

That's where I looked. I don't view UBI as a stopgap. Aside from literally keeping people alive, it will allow people to thrive. Artists will create, caretakers & stay-at-home parents will be respected. In 2-5 years AI will be ubiquitous

Love what I have heard from you. Addressing rampant poverty with this simple common sense solution is not optional in my mind. You won't find any poor people who disagree.

It is needed because the jobs are going away. Not for a limited time but to keep the economy working. Either that or a dystopia future of dog eat dog violence to ward off starvation.

The income tax was a temporary stop gap. Hell the war on drugs has been a stop gap of type. The list goes on an on with stop gaps. One thing for sure is the gap is never stopped

Respectfully, a Livable #UBI is not a "stopgap measure." The ship will NEVER be righted because it has a giant hole in the bottom & is sinking. #Automation has been killing jobs for a LONG time. #AI has accelerated the problem. This isn't theory. I have SEEN this 1st hand.

A stopgap measure for 2-5 years?When MLK was pushing for a basic income during the Poor People’s Movement he didn’t say lets just use it for a little bit. UBI may not go far enough - but how is making it a temporary stop gap helping the fact it won’t 100% cure hyper capitalism?
