“Democracy in order to live must become a positive force in the daily lives of its people. It must make men and women whose devotion it seeks, feel that it really cares for the security of every individual; that it is tolerant enough to inspire an essential unity among its citizens; and that it is militant enough to maintain liberty against social oppression at home and against military aggression abroad.” - FDR

It is both. We are a democratic republic. It’s like saying we have doors, and we have windows too.

Uh no it isn't A Democracy is vote by the mob and has never worked successfully for long in history it always commits suicide
Some love to say republic instead of the democracy part so they can soon they will be in a autocratic ruled country of corruption. One without a vote. Sometimes it seems like that may come "tomorrow" the way some are pressing for this.

After our blood to bone sacrifice we have keys, but no access to either doors or windows so which "we" are you talking about??
Correct. Our Founding Fathers referred to America as BOTH a Constitutional Republic AND a Representative Democracy. Today’s Republicans like to say we aren’t a Democracy in order to justify a Fascist agenda and/or to parrot what their ilk says on social media to seem smart.
