Marianne I wish you wouldn’t demonize capitalism. I was feeling this and then I saw your attacks and business and that made me immediately dismiss everything you have in here

I don’t demonize capitalism. I know about the upside of the free market, but what we have today for the vast majority of people is not that. Adam Smith, the primary architect of free market capitalism, said free market capitalism “cannot exist outside an ethical context.” Trickle down economics has shaken capitalism from its moral center. There is no ethical context to unfettered, unregulated capitalism. It permits and even legitimizes an overreach by capital so profound that it is based more on exploitation than on righteous profit. That’s why we’re in the middle of a second Gilded Age. Other generations fixed it when that happened before (the New Deal, the labor movement), and now it’s our turn.

Understood. Maybe I’m misinterpreting your tone. It sounds like what you’re really saying is “we have a broken version of capitalism for obvious reasons. We can make it better rebalancing resource allocation (I.e. $ from rich to poor).

Capitalism requires workers to sell their labor and not receive commiserate pay for that labor bc it is taken as profit for those who own capital. How is there any upside to capitalism when it requires exploitation of people and the planet to function?
What we need is 'trickle-up' economics. Give money to the poor and they WILL spend it. That stimulates the economy and generates taxes. The rich buy jets and diamonds, to be sure, but the rascals invest it in stocks (bidding up prices) & then borrow against it: no tax revenues.

What moral center? Why don't we look at pre FDR capitalism? Every reform to capitalism only exports suffering and exploitation to developing countries.
capitalism demonizes itself when we really see past it’s illusions. well done seeking truth. hope these ideas can be the difference someday
