Republicans as well as Democrats agree that the American people deserve basic economic rights. My speech on May 18th will highlight my proposal for a 21st Century Economic Bill of Rights.

The people want an Economic Bill of Rights. New polling from @DataProgress shows a large majority of voters — including a majority of Republicans — support economic rights. There's broad support for these ideas in the abstract & when details are provided filesforprogress.org/memos/d…

Good idea. Propose something. Americans voters should understand the (always temporary, contingent) resolving of normative issues relating to the ethics of the definition, distribution, use of economic power reside with them. Not with bad economists, not with conservatives only.

Actually, no. Don’t project your FDR socialism on Republicans. Rights in this country are to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. No one has the right to another’s labor. That’s slavery.

The economic bill of rights should allow people. 1. To be free of any and all taxes, fees, or charges imposed on them by the government. 2. To participate in the free market, invest, buy and own property, stocks and investments, create and own businesses and corporations.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second… — FDR proposed such a bill of rights early in 1944, during World War II and a year before he died. It did not go very far, and his successor Harry Truman’s proposed national health insurance had a similar fate.

None of these ideas are new, but all of them have been debunked as disastrous. Especially considering the current debt, which makes them not only stupid, they are insane. This is magical thinking.
