When I was young, Eugene McCarthy and Bobby Kennedy challenged the sitting president, LBJ. No one thought it was weird for them to do so. In 1980, Teddy Kennedy challenged the sitting president, Jimmy Carter. No one thought it was weird for him to do so. People simply thought that was the democratic process. Because it is. The narrative that there's something *wrong* with challenging an incumbent president - as though there's an unwritten rule that it's a bad idea - is ridiculous. It's part of the "but it has to be this way" illusion by which political elites have trained people to limit our political imaginations for decades. People should run who feel moved to run, and everyone should have a chance to hear their ideas. Three people are running for the Democratic nomination in 2024 and three people should be seen together on a debate stage. *That* is the democratic way.

I am fine with debates and ANYBODY running in the primary. Once the nominee is decided it’s ALL ON BOARD . Nadar and Stein were the selfish Mt Climbers with no shot at scaling Everest yet they demanded to stay in, killed the Sherpa and the rest of the climbing party. #voteblue

The DNC in court in 2017 said that they have the right to rig their primaries however they want bc they’re a private corporation. They won too bc all corrupt judges side with corps over ppl. So if you really wanted change, u would run outside that worthless party.

Marianne, please tell me what happened after Kennedy primaried Carter in 1980, and what happened in 1968. We got Reagan and Nixon. While I agree that people should be allowed to speak their piece and primary if they wish to do so, there is a severe risk of it backfiring. (1/?)

McCarthy and Kennedy were outspoken critics of the war and the lies and militarism that caused them. You're not in the same category.

And actually, there are more than 3 people who have filed paperwork to run for the Democratic nomination. You stay being a hypocrite. ballotpedia.org/List_of_regi…

And Bobby Kennedy Sr was challenging the guiding principles of US foreign policy. You aren’t doing that. You’re projecting the same simplistic “Good Guys vs Bad Guys” nonsense that Joe Biden is. There’s no fundamental difference. Thankfully, Bobby’s is doing that to some degree

When I was young the Good Humor truck came by and a chocolate and vanilla ice cream on stick cost 50 cents. Times change. It's not about "challenging a sitting President." It's that you are a bad candidate who will only end up harming the national discussion. But sure, go for it.

I supported Gene McCarthy, then Bobby Kennedy, then we got Richard Nixon. The only way Biden can get more done is to have a Democratic House and Senate back. We need to be United to continue to improve the lives of the working class, middle class, and the poor #BidenHarris2024
