One of the most powerful things we can do to end the scourge of a mental health crisis is to end poverty. It's impossible to overestimate the role that chronic economic despair plays in pushing people into a state of crisis.

Serious Mental Illness is a brain disease not unlike Alzheimer’s. Poverty is not the cause. Treatment and 24/7 supportive housing is needed.

A redistribution of wealth is obviously needed. The only way to win the war against poverty is by giving cash directly to people, unconditionally and universally. The most efficient way is through the federal government. But corrupt politicians control that apparatus.
