One of the most powerful things we can do to end the scourge of a mental health crisis is to end poverty. It's impossible to overestimate the role that chronic economic despair plays in pushing people into a state of crisis.

But impending poverty is how the rich can force the non-rich back into slave labor submission. Not just Blacks or other non-whites, But WHITE working class too. What was working class life in the 1950s and 1960s like? Entertain at home, Not much "going out."

Mental illness is not an economic condition. Untreated mental illness may lead to an impoverished lifestyle but poverty does not cause mental illness. Mental illness is a disease.

Even more, the experiences of homelessness - the stigma & dehumanization, often sleep deprivation, broken systems, constant stress & erratic environments, hopelessness & despair not seeing a way out (a shelter is not a home) etc etc

Its by design. People that are too stressed to pay attention to policy don't interfere with policy making decisions that keep them poor. Tax cuts for rich Block public option for healthcare Citizens United Packing the courts Its by design.

Do you mean middle class or the rich have no or minimum mental health issues? Money is not the panacea for mental health issues.

Rich people can pay for help. Everyone else is in a constant state of struggle.

Mental illness perpetuates poverty. Universal healthcare mitigates mental illness.
