The WGA writers strike will go down as a pivotal moment in the counteroffensive against vulture capitalism, not unlike what Christian Smalls did at the Amazon warehouse Staten Island. Why? Because writers - fiction, non-fiction, whatever - tell the larger story. Not only theirs, but everyone’s. Either a soulless drive for endless corporate profit despite any ethical consideration wins….or people win. It can’t be both ways. This is not just about money, it’s about freedom. In the words of FDR, “a necessitous man is not a free man.” An economic system - in Hollywood or anywhere else - that thrives by keeping the majority of people in a necessitous situation is an attack on freedom. From ancient Greeks to modern writers on strike, the storytellers free us because they help us understand. Go writers! You tell that story. Help everyone understand.

Can someone tell me what "vulture capitalism" is ? How's it different from just capitalism?

I don't see a lot of stories that don't support status quo beliefs and opinions. I don't see "larger stories" on TV. They have legitimate grievances, but don't make them out to be more than they actually are, or do.

As a lifetime member of the WGA, enduring many strikes, I can attest to the power of collective bargaining. Yet it’s startling to read how many followers here - in the global audience - resent the strike and artists’ sustainable livelihoods. Bigger cultural issue to address.

WGA writer’s have gone on strike multiple times. Nothing new. Their 1990s strike gave us “reality TV” when studios realized they didn’t need writers to produce high viewership TV. This time, I suspect Hollywood may replace human writers with AI… no 401K, holiday pay required

This is like the perfect void for the emergence of AI to start being used. Im am not saying thats a good thing, Im just saying this is like a perfect storm for the rise. Yeah, AIs suck right now, sure. Give it 6ms or a year. You're not going to be able to tell the difference.

The WGA strikers are the happiest strikers that have ever lived.

Christian Smalls woke up the working class about their rights. I don't see how his was not pivotal. What are you getting at?

I'm hoping they stay striking...forever. Maybe we will get less wokeness and more quality.
