We spend $858 billion a year on “national security,” while millions are not secure in their homes, secure in their jobs, secure they’ll get healthcare if they get sick, or secure that they will have enough food to eat, clean water to drink, or clean air to breathe. We need a radical reassessment of what the phrase “national security” should mean. It’s not enough to know another country won’t do you in, if all manner of things right here at home just might.

One of those things is a responsibility of a limited federal government. The others? Not so much.

What do they say? It is better to fight the enemy in their own country than have to fight them on our doorstep!

"National security" certainly doesn't mean "nanny state", or "mommy government" that cares for all our needs. At most, "National security" means protecting the borders (and not beyond) from foreign powers.

We don’t need to be in Ukraine but we are not an island and China is a very real threat. If we falter there won’t be food for anyone. Stop oversimplifying the issue on emotion and understand the complexities.

This country was founded on not getting involved in Europe's problems, let alone the world's problems. It took us 100 years as a country to get involved militarily in Europe. This move to go into WW1 was heavily protested, and that's why the FBI was created to shut the public up.

Yes, we need to reassess what "national security" means. It's important to focus on the well-being and security of all individuals, not just in terms of external threats but also in terms of basic necessities like healthcare&food. I appreciate your perspective on this issue. 👍
