When the Founders wrote the Second Amendment, the largest guns they had were muskets. The modern bullet had not yet been invented. They could only shoot one bullet at a time. Today’s assault weapon would be like the power of a cannon to them. The Second Amendment is NOT a legitimate reason not to ban assault weapons. Ban them now.

Puckle gun is a machine gun invented 70 years before the second amendment was written. Loads of other examples more sophisticated than muskets were around too. Sorry, I hate gun crime but this fired 9 rounds a minute. I’d give more examples but it’s nearly 5am here.

Right. They hadn't just got done fighting a war where they saw in living technicolor what a musket ball does to a human body. Or anything.

How many times do you people have to be reminded of cannons and puckle guns before you admit you're liars?

The problem is the 2nd amendment is outdated. Besides muskets, single shot pistols were also commonly used when 2nd amendment was written. The fire arms didn’t start to change & evolved till after the civil war. The founders never expected the fire arm to evolved & change.

The Bill of Rights is not a religious document; no one went up to Mt. Sinai to have it delivered to them. It can be edited & updated, & should be.

240 years ago, 39 men gathered in a room to write a Constitution. They were very close, but they didn’t get absolutely everything right. Hence: mistakes (blacks as 3/5 of a person, etc). Why we can’t question their judgment on specific elements is beyond me. 39 men 240 years ago.

The largest were the cannon. Yeah! We can use cannons.
