The death penalty doesn’t deter crime; it isn’t necessary for public safety; and it is wholly inconsistent with Louisiana’s pro-life values as it quite literally promotes a culture of death. For these reasons I support @RepKyleGreen’s bill to abolish the death penalty. #lagov

It's kinda the most extreme version of "big government interfering in citizens lives", so always odd that the most conservative conservatives support it. Fundamentally impossible to get a truthful court decision, too, as an eye witness can't serve on the jury.

And you know what else? It ends up obscuring the number of state executions we have. We have one process for a tiny proportion of them, and we call that "the death penalty", but in practice there are over 1,000 executions in the US per year.
