During the run up to the Iraq War we put up NO WAR signs in our front yard, and someone on the street would take them down every night. We would get up every morning and simply put them up again. I kept saying it was like Vietnam all over again, and people would call me “a facile thinker” who “didn’t understand.” Dennis Kucinich was in Congress at the time, warning against the war, ridiculed for what we now know to have been his prescience and wisdom. He told me one day that Congress felt like it was filled with “war fever.” The only thing we can say about the Iraq War now is that it was pure criminal madness. Anyone saying now that “they did the best they knew how to do at the time” is lying. Everyone who voted for it - including our current president - went along with something that anyone willing to look deeper into the facts knew even at the time was wrong. Beyond wrong. Hideously wrong. May God forgive us.
I was working for Rep. Dave Obey during the launch of the Iraq War. It was horrible. Obey & other lawmakers trying to to stop it were berated & laughed at by media and political elites, almost all of whom would be rewarded & enriched for lying the country into the disaster.

yeah I remember that Marianne very well. I remember her willingness to listen. I remember post-invasion when pushing to impeach the criminals grew strong. I remember that Marianne bending Dennis’s ear to, at a bare minimum, look into whether those offenses were impeachable.

Patrick Buchanan also spoke out.

Patriotic propaganda spread by major media. Still happens and still disgusted

Yet you’re supportive of the current regime change proxy war that we provoked and stoked and are escalating to the very last Ukrainian. You’re running for POTUS yet will barely address the war that could result in WW3 Nuclear obliteration

Much of our nation’s far-right shift and associated dystopian ills can be traced back to this.

I’m glad I joined the march against the war. More than once. I remember how shocked people acted when someone first called bush a war criminal. The truth hurts.

Why did the CIA get away with letting Al Qaeda run amok in America for a full year before 9/11 ? You Americans were angry at the wrong people.
