Pushing back a neo-fascist authoritarian threat is absolutely the primary challenge of our time. But we won’t be able to do that unless we’re willing to analyze how we became so vulnerable to it to begin with. Yes, there is a malignant narcissist who had a lot to do with it. Plus, social media as well. But there was something more, something even more insidious that weakened our democracy and left us open to the threat. FDR said we wouldn’t have to worry about a fascist takeover “as long as democracy delivered on its blessings.” And that is where we’ve failed. The fact that people do not have healthcare, do not have a livable wage, cannot go to college or send their kids to college, do not get help with child care, feel so little economic wind at their back…those speak to the the “blessings of democracy” that our system has failed to deliver. And that is what has weakened our societal immune system. Providing such things now, like a massive infusion of hope and opportunity, is the boost to our immune system without which we will have a very hard time keeping the disease at bay. Too late for vitamins. We need a quick IV.

Greed and corruption is rampant, and those at the top don’t want equity in our society

Ironic you'd quote FDR, considering he was a fascist.

No offense ma'am. You are a rich elitist who does not feel the pain of regular Americans. If you do you do not discuss it. 39 million in poverty! Over 600,000 near a million homeless! 34 million food insecure! Where are you on the issues that matter. jahahughes.com/post/a-living…

The fact that you use the word "democracy" instead of "Republic", shows a gross misunderstanding of the Framer's vision & the Constitution itself. Democracy was a four letter to them & for good reason. It only came into vogue with the Fabian Socialists in the late 1800's.

2. Our vulnerability as human beings is baked in, not just due to the imbalance of wealth. We evolved to best grapple with the world face to face and hands on. Our brains are simply not able to properly conceptualize trade and economics on a global level of 8 billion people.

3. Trying to rearrange opportunities among us in the human economy omits our impact on nature! We must change much more than monetary welfare. We must curb and reverse our destruction of the soils, as well as the oceans and the atmosphere. GDP = Giant Destruction of the Planet.

Both parties apathy, greed, and lust for power are how we got here. If you don't recognize that then you're part of the problem.
