I cannot even imagine what it would be like to be in your Twenties and carry tens of thousands of dollars of college loan debt. And we wonder where the mental health crisis comes from? Economic anxiety is a pit of despair. Every American should realize that college and public universities were tuition free up until the mid-1960s. Unfettered capitalism is ravenous in its search for a profit center, even if it emerges from or causes human suffering. How dare we tell young people they should have respect for capitalism when they. have. no. capital! None of this will change until we change it. #ANewBeginning

In the 1980's, they had a Great Idea - any kid should be able to go to the college of their choice without finances getting in the way. Their method was idiotic - put $4500 a year on the table in "guaranteed" loans, with no regulation triggering double-digit tuition inflation.

Ffs Marianne tell that to the administrative state in higher Ed. It has taken 90% of the increase in the cost of a degree over the last 40 years. That’s where the cuts need to happen.

As long as we can agree that it's not enough to fetter capitalism, we have to overthrow it altogether.

I had tens of thousands of dollars of college loan debt when I graduated in my 20’s. I took advantage of the deferment option because, like most people in their 20’s, I didn’t make much money. I worked overtime, sacrificed, and eventually paid my debts, just like everyone should.

There is no need for a qualifier. Do we have unfettered capitalism rn? Sure. Will regulated capitalism save this country? No. Regulating capitalism will not save us. Capitalism is the problem, fettered or not. I’m young, but I don’t want capital. I want the means of production.

I cannot imagine a “progressive candidate” would fund Nazis in Ukraine and the apartheid state of Israel than use these funds on Americans including college debt but how another basic water in Jackson & Flint. Where do you stand on sending $$$ abroad to feed hate?

I had 10s of thousands of student loan debt and guess what, I paid them off like every person should. Enabling irresponsible people will be our downfall.

Government making education loans easy to obtain caused a massive increase in tuition. Just like they pumped money into healthcare with medicare. It is economically equivalent to "stimulating" the economy, only in specific sectors. Government involvement is the problem.
