America’s greatest resource is the brain of every child. The way to guarantee a thriving society in 20 years is to do everything we can to help every 10 year old thrive today. Those who come from advantaged homes stand a very good chance of inheriting the advantage. Those who do not - and that is the majority of our children - stand a very good chance of inheriting the despair. For our system has no use for those who do not immediately feed it. Too young to vote, our children form no constituency. Too young to work, they have no financial leverage. Those from advantaged homes, unfortunately, are more worried about protecting and accumulating more wealth than about helping society as a whole. Welcome to life Marianne. That’s not changing. All anyone cares about is their own money and protecting it for their own children.

Was there this concern about children in the 1930s through the 1980s when children were to be seen but not heard. Let’s not let bad parenting off the hook or giving every kid a “smart phone” when they were 10 years old.

A great start, and I'd urge you to look at starting earlier. If we provided universal pre-K to every child, and ensured they started kindergarten ready, we would exponentially increase the people ready for the workforce, trades or college in 15 years.
