America’s greatest resource is the brain of every child. The way to guarantee a thriving society in 20 years is to do everything we can to help every 10 year old thrive today. Those who come from advantaged homes stand a very good chance of inheriting the advantage. Those who do not - and that is the majority of our children - stand a very good chance of inheriting the despair. For our system has no use for those who do not immediately feed it. Too young to vote, our children form no constituency. Too young to work, they have no financial leverage. If you look at the work of Dr Gabor Mate you'll see that financial advantages don't necessarily mean there won't be unmet needs that lead to unhealthy adaptations that perpetuate cycles of trauma and suffering.
