Norfolk Southern didn鈥檛 come to the meeting to address the town because their lawyers have told them to keep their mouth shut. Given that this disaster was caused by nothing but their greedy cost cutting, any answers they were to give honestly could be used against them in court.

East Palestine Ohio mayor Trent Conaway is furious the community came out for a town hall and the railroad refused to show up Norfolk Southern didn't have the nerve to address the town.

I would say the people are entirely in their rights to be angry at this. Norfolk Southern is accountable and should be held to it. It was their equipment, their staff which admittedly are being pushed seemingly far too far, and based on some of The now available surveillance video, a mechanical failure of a wheel bearing which with proper inspections can be detected. They need to formulate and present a countermeasor's plan that ensures proper preventive maintenance, inspection, and associate working conditions to actually yield a safe transport method. Not to mention the fact that they have a lot of explaining to do to the residents of a town they have essentially just poisoned.
