The main reason we should cancel the college loan debt is because it should never have occurred to begin with. From the start, it represented a terrible scam by which financial institutions created a profit center out of the admirable desire of our young to better their lives.

Or we could stop giving federally guaranteed student loans to degree programs that don't lead to jobs capable of paying back the loans.. like BS "gender studies" nonsense.

Why are costs so high? How about we address that before we pass the endless costs off to the tax payers.

Not fair to other young people who sacrificed more, served in the military, got ROTC scholarships, made more sensible or creative choices to start their lives. Although it would be good for the economy to forgive those loans. Is this about an economic bottom line?

Exactly— and framing this as a problem in the context of loans given to children is a good way to discuss the real problem. Of course I, as an 18 year old, coming from a family with zero college graduates, signed whatever I had to in order to go to college.

Reform bankruptcy law. I wouldn't expect anybody to pay my gambling debts but if you're broke you're broke. Humanity abhors bondage.

If we're going to remove personal responsibility and blame someone, let's blame the narrative that said college was the only way to get ahead in this life.
