The main reason we should cancel the college loan debt is because it should never have occurred to begin with. From the start, it represented a terrible scam by which financial institutions created a profit center out of the admirable desire of our young to better their lives.

There's definitely some truth to this, but they still signed up for it all just to get an advantage over others that they would then abuse. If that's the reason, then should all of the more reasonable & responsible people that didn't get a free education now?

@marwilliamson if you correctly identify that the financial institutions created a profit center, why don't you propose a solution for this instead of saying, the people who didn't borrow money and didn't participate in this scam share the burden.

Cancelation without reform is an insult.

I get the idea, I really do. That said, no one seems to realize the cascading failure canceling this debt would induce. That debt is heavily leveraged so the govt would have to take in that debt, necessitibg either more taxes or money printing (taxes with the extra steps).

Actually, from the start, politicians stripped public colleges of support, enabling financial institutions to take advantage.
