If Americans were offered a genuine alternative to the neoliberal system of economics for that for the last 40 years has put corporate profits before their health and well-being, I think that they would take it.

If you are talking about an end to crony capitalism I am with you. But it sounds like you want government control of all sectors of the economy, which is Fascism. If you want government ownership of all sectors of the economy, that would be communism. Let the market be free!
