If Americans were offered a genuine alternative to the neoliberal system of economics for that for the last 40 years has put corporate profits before their health and well-being, I think that they would take it.

They key is understanding that the purpose of society is to meet everyone's needs. That means providing an unconditional irreducible minimum. "The free rider problem" is just another manifestation of lack of responsibility for the collective, selfishness. It is solved culturally
