Why don’t we have elections on a Saturday so more working people can get to the polls? Too obvious?

We could make voting a federal holiday. Like Australia, we could make it mandatory to vote. We could have people automatically registered on their 18th birthday. The system limits the participation of the average person by making it complicated in ways it doesn’t have to be.

I was going to say the same thing, except for the mandatory voting part. My right to vote should encompass my right not to vote.
In Australia if you never register with the AEC (Australian Electoral Commission) you don’t have to vote but once you register with them your on the list for life and if you don’t vote you get fined.
All fine suggestions but making anything mandatory is not appropriate for a free nation.
Mandatory voting ? Uh. You don't see the problem with that?
Nothing says freedom better than government mandated voting.
Yea nah. That’s how state run media can rule the country. Mandating everyone vote is nonsense. Have you watched the documentary Idiocracy? Not having a mandate protects people from Idiocracy. Kinda like the electoral college.

Mandatory? That seems odd for a free country.

How authoritarian of you. This is a free country.

We could do all kinds of shit but you know it ain’t happening
If you make it a holiday, people will go out of town and do everything except go to vote.
