Why don’t we have elections on a Saturday so more working people can get to the polls? Too obvious?

We could make voting a federal holiday. Like Australia, we could make it mandatory to vote. We could have people automatically registered on their 18th birthday. The system limits the participation of the average person by making it complicated in ways it doesn’t have to be.

I dont think voting should be mandatory, but we could make voting easier, and run actual good candidates and then many more people would choose to vote.

Good, corporate backed candidates run all the time (candidatesummit.com) but the money spent by corporate backed forces crushes them time and time again.

Unlike Australia we have inalienable rights that the government spells out, but cannot take away. Our rights are natural rights. Any Right the government gives can be taken away. We don't have a central government. We have 50 independent States. That is the strength of America.
Curious what happens if someone forgets to vote. What is the punishment?

Making it a holiday now would do little as people can vote by mail or early in a vast majority of state. What i predict would happen is people would take the Monday off and turn it into a really long weekend and vote by mail.

Forced participation is NOT good for democracy.

Just combine voting day with Columbus day and everyone wins

I don’t know about mandatory to vote, unless there’s a “none of the above” option of some sort. I would like to see it become a federal holiday, with a maximum number of hours workers can legally work.
