I was at a grocery store, and I overheard a conversation about how there was no need to research the issues or candidates because their church gave them a hand out telling them how to vote. Shouldn't churches who tell people how to vote pay taxes?

YES. Tax exempt status is theoretically lost if the church or non-profit specifically endorses candidates.
