It's painfully obvious that many major media outlets have quietly realized they need and want Trump back, and they've convinced themselves that they can create some sort of Magneto Jail where we will have Trump but he won't be actively dangerous.

The after-the-fact handwringing, the "We never intended to abet authoritarianism, how were we to know it would lead to this" is going to be absolutely insufferable.
