As long as they don’t hurt the art (which they’re not), I think environmental activists throwing food stuff etc. onto priceless paintings to highlight the insanity of our priorities is a pretty glorious piece of agitprop.

Of course you do. How would you ever get back on Bill Maher if you said anything different.

An unbelievably sophomoric take. At the very least, these are spoiled teenagers forcing other people to clean up their mess.

Disagree. Did the protestors know that the art wouldn’t be damaged? Or was that just a stroke of luck? I’ve been marching, protesting and signing since the 60’s. I don’t see this act as productive or even making a clear statement.

It is protected by a clear shield. Soup never touched the painting's surface. It was a stunt. They knew they weren't endangering a masterpiece. Idea was to contrast public attitudes on what is and how to treat a masterpiece (whether earth or painting).

I was watching this guy digging a ditch for a cable. Man, the way he held that shovel! He just dug that ditch all wrong. I told him so. I watched him digging. I stood in his way and told him how to shovel. I don't dig myself, but... - a lot of advice to workers in this thread.

It’s childish. ‘I and for climate change, so let’s eff with some paintings.

"As long as they burn down buildings that I deem irrelevant, it's ok" is exactly how you get civil war.

And even if they did totally destroy the art they would still be right; since if they fail and civilisation does collapse the art is fucked anyway!

This columnist agrees with you and has more room to explain why. Interesting take. Thank you for saying this because I had assumed the paintings were damaged and am so relieved and thankful they were not nytimes.com/2022/10/20/opini…
