I keep thinking about how Hitler said, late in the war, that "the only way they could have stopped us was if they had come at us early, swift, and hard." Officialdom pussyfooted around and that was a big, big mistake.

Ah yes so maybe an asterisk with his quote, he was also a sociopath and compulsive liar so not sure I'd trust everything he said. Tough to say in hindsight after the great war and the great depression that the appeasement strategy was a silly one
